After a one week delay to enable other ISPs on the Island to sign up to the service, ensuring that all interested providers could roll out offerings simultaneously, Cable & Wireless Guernsey announced the launch of its broadband service on Tuesday.

However, there was more good news for Guernsey's internet users this week, as C&W announced that, following discussions with the regulator, it had decided to drop the price of line rental to other ISPs from £30 per month to £19.99.

Speaking to the the Guernsey Press and Star this week, chief executive, Jeremy Thompson denied that the company had been forced into the price reduction, explaining that: 'It was our decision, fundamentally and absolutely.' He continued: 'We will see what the uptake is before deciding to raise prices, but it's unlikely they will go up.'

Also speaking to the local newspaper, director-general of the Office of Utility Regulation, Regina Finn welcomed the broadband launch, and C&W's decision to cut the price of the service:

'The lower prices to internet service providers will promote competition in the market and give the companies the ability to pass on these cost savings,' she observed.
