Cable and Wireless Cayman Islands has announced plans to offer a new residential broadband telephony Voice over IP (VoIP) service, to be known as ‘NetSpeak,’ to its customers across all three of the Cayman Islands from the begining of next month.
According to C&W, the launch of the service, which will provide customers with a low-cost option for long distance calling, is contingent on regulatory approval from the Information Communications Technology Authority (ICTA).
Voice over IP services have experienced tremendous growth throughout Europe and North America because they use high-speed Internet, rather than circuit-switches, to connect telephone calls – translating into significantly lower rates for calls.
NetSpeak service will bring these services to Cayman, making it possible for customers to place high-quality, low-cost voice calls from Cayman to domestic or international destinations using a Terminal Adaptor and any high-speed Internet access service.
“Cable and Wireless is excited at the prospect of rolling out a high quality broadband telephony service to our customers. C&W NetSpeak will bring the best of Voice over IP Technology to our customers here in Cayman with easy billing, highest quality and of course low prices,” noted Alee Fa’amoe, of Cable and Wireless.
“Receiving approval from the ICTA could tremendously reduce the costs of telecommunications for the people of the Cayman Islands,” Fa’amoe added.
