Cable & Wireless E-Business Ltd. has opened a new US$10 million E-Business Solutions Centre in Bermuda (eBSC) to provide web hosting facilities and related services as well as an online payment processing platform service entitled Web Commerce.
Jorgen Clausen, chief of marketing and business development for E-Business Ltd., told local journalists: 'In order to provide these services we have recently completed construction of a brand new, purpose-built eBusiness Solutions Centre, designed and engineered to offer the highest of technical standards. From our eBSC we provide a comprehensive array of leading-edge web hosting, managed services and online payment processing solutions.'
Cable & Wireless says it decided upon Bermuda as its premier offshore location for numerous reasons including: a tax-neutral or low-tax structure; low incorporation and business establishment fees; light-handed regulation and faster legislation; a high density of professional expertise both legally and financially; specific e-commerce legislation in the Electronic Transactions Act; a strategic location between North America and Europe; sound telecomms infrastructure; and political and economic stability.
The offshore facility, constructed to endure a harsh tropical climate including wind speeds of up to 175 miles per hour, is situated 200 feet above sea level. Cable & Wireless states that the centre was designed to 'cater to a niche market of offshore hosting customers while maintaining all the same resiliencies found in our larger hosting centres.'
'Advanced smoke detection and fire suppression systems place the facility among the most advanced in the world,' added E-Business Ltd. Vice President, Nic Budden.
