12 March 2007

Following the City of London Law Society's separation from the City of London Solicitors' Company on 1st January 2007, the CLLS last week published its agenda for the coming year.

According to its agenda, the stated objectives of the CLLS for 2007 are to:

  • Support and promote the work of the CLLS Specialist Committees;
  • Lobby for a proportionate and effective regulatory framework for its members, including continuing to represent its members interests in relation to the Legal Services Bill and the Professional Code of Conduct;
  • Lobby for appropriate training and education for City Solicitors;
  • Lobby for appropriate facilities in London for commercial dispute resolution; and
  • Hold a programme of events focussing on issues of importance to City Solicitors

The City of London Law Society represents approximately 12,000 city solicitors, through individual and corporate membership, including the largest international law firms in the world. These law firms advise a variety of clients from multinational companies and financial institutions to Government departments, often in relation to complex, multi-jurisdictional legal issues.
