According to a recent report from Government Computing News, public sector organisations in the United Kingdom will now be allowed to distribute a wide range of published material over their networks.
Earlier this month, it emerged that the Copyright Licensing Authority (CLA) has created a new form of license for larger organisations, which permits them to scan and e-mail internally extracts from publications such as books, journals, and magazines. This licensing arrangement will allow authors and publishers to receive recompense for the use of their material.
Speaking to Government Computing News, a spokesperson for the CLA explained that:
'The license can increase innovation and knowledge by enabling staff to share information. It will also help an organisation to fulfill its legal obligations and meet best practice standards.'
