The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) recently launched a consultation on planned changes to its payment processing system.
As part of CIPO's commitment to modernizing its payment processes and client services, CIPO is planning to amend its payment practices regarding the payment of fees through Deposit Accounts as of 1st January, 2009.
The reasoning behind the proposed changes is to alleviate the potential risk of payment delays and potentially jeopardized intellectual property rights due to longer internal processing times.
The Office explained that:
"This effort aims to achieve simplified and efficient business processes while focusing on CIPO's statutory obligation."
Responses are invited on the matter until 31st August.
