The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) announced on Wednesday the appointment of its first Chief Executive, Peter Fanning, who will take up his appointment in September.
The appointment is part of a process of change within CIOT designed both to develop opportunities and to meet the challenges that professional organisations and charities increasingly face.
These include the constraints on the time available from volunteers, increased competition and the impending retirement of senior professional staff.
Mr Fanning commented:
“I am delighted to be taking up this newly created role. The CIOT is an excellent organisation and the leading professional body for tax in the UK. It will be a privilege to guide it through this period of change.”
Fanning has previously been Acting Chief Executive at the Office of Government Commerce (an independent office of HM Treasury) and has had a range of senior management roles across various sectors over the last twenty years.
Nick Goulding, CIOT President, added:
“I am delighted that Peter has agreed to join the CIOT. My colleagues and I look forward to working with him.”
