On Thursday, the partial renewal of the membership of the Court of First Instance (CFI) and the entry into office of new members was announced.
The CFI revealed that the term of office of Bo Vesterdorf, President of the Court of First Instance of the European Communities, will expire on 17 September 2007. The mandates of 13 Judges of the Court of First Instance expired on 31 August 2007.
In a decision made on 25 April 2007, the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States renewed, for the period from 1 September 2007 to 31 August 2013, the mandates of Judges John D. Cooke, Nicholas James Forwood, Ena Cremona, Irena Pelikánová, Vilenas Vadapalas, Ingrida Labucka, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, Nils Wahl, Miro Prek and Teodor Tchipev.
In decisions made on 25 April 2007 and 23 May 2007, the following were appointed as Judges for the period from 1 September 2007 to 31 August 2013: Alfred Dittrich, replacing Jörg Pirrung, Santiago Soldevila Fragoso, replacing Rafael García-Valdecasas y Fernández, and Laurent Truchot, replacing Hubert Legal, and, for the period from 17 September 2007 to 31 August 2010, Sten Frimodt Nielsen, replacing Bo Vesterdorf.
A formal sitting to mark the aforementioned departures and renewals, and the swearing-in of the new members will be held on 17 September.
