US President George W. Bush has not yet decided whether to make wholesale tax reforms, aimed at simplifying the country’s tax code, a top policy priority should he win a second term, Treasury Secretary John Snow has revealed.
"The president hasn't made that decision yet," Mr Snow told the financial news television channel CNBC. "But clearly we have a lot of room for improvement in this code."
Bush hinted that the administration was actively considering radical new tax ideas by suggesting on the campaign trail last week that a national sales tax could replace the current income tax system.
"I think engendering a discussion on that, as the president did, is certainly a very worthwhile thing." Snow added.
