Borsa Italiana announced late on Wednesday evening that it is looking to float on the Italian market, with an international alliance with another exchange expected in the near future.
In a short statement, the exchange explained that:
"The Board of Directors of Borsa Italiana met today and approved a proposal to commence a feasibility study for the Company's flotation."
Observers have suggested that an alliance with the London Stock Exchange, which is currently being - unsuccessfully - wooed by Australia's Macquarie Bank, is the most likely option, pointing to remarks made by Borsa Italiana's chief executive, Massimo Capuano last month which hinted at such an outcome.
