David Carruthers, Chief Executive Officer of the internet gaming firm BetonSports has announced plans to expand the firm's operations in the Caribbean jurisdiction of Antigua and Barbuda.
A statement released by the company following its annual general meeting in Antigua earlier in the month indicated that the firm was encouraged by the government's commitment to the industry, and revealed that a decision was taken at the AGM to expand its marketing and research development unit in Antigua. This will initially create 25 new jobs.
Listed on London's small cap market, the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), BetonSports is one of the world's leading online sportsbook and casinos.
Delivering his 2006 Budget last week, Antigua and Barbuda's Finance Minister, Errol Cort was defiant regarding the jurisdiction's online gambling industry, despite the ongoing dispute with the United States before the World Trade Organisation on the matter.
According to Cort, at least 10 new online gambling firms are set to commence operations in Antigua and Barbuda next year, in addition to the 14 such firms which are already in place.
