The Bermudian government is due to promote the jurisdiction’s technology capabilities at an international e-commerce seminar in London next month, the Ministry for Tourism, Telecommunications and E-Commerce announced last week.
According to a statement from the ministry, nearly three-quarters of Fortune 500 companies have some form of presence in Bermuda, and the department noted that the island has proven “a natural choice” for offshore e-business projects, attracting the likes of Cable & Wireless and AT&T Wireless.
“The seminar will offer advice to those considering e-business projects and highlight the reasons why so many of the world’s leading companies already have a presence in Bermuda,” the ministry’s statement explained.
Scheduled to speak at the event on February 4 are Renee Webb, Minster for Tourism, Telecommunications and E-Commerce and an as yet unnamed representative from the Bank of Bermuda.
Also addressing the conference will be Jonathan Koshar, general manager of AT&T Wireless in Bermuda, who was quoted by the Royal Gazette as observing: “AT&T Wireless has been able to establish itself and make great progress in a relatively short space of time thanks to the supportive government and business environment in Bermuda.”
“We are among the first three countries in the world to have EDGE data technology, giving the Bermudian business community access to state of the art wireless communications products and services,” noted Mr Koshar.
