In collaboration with Bermuda's Ministry of Telecommunications and E-Commerce, Bermuda-based marketing, advertising and design firm Evoke International has launched the country's first web site awards competition, entitled the WebSAwards, to promote the use and development of the Internet and e-commerce for all business and personal uses in Bermuda.

E-Commerce Minister Renee Webb announced: 'I am pleased to be able to support this exciting initiative as I believe it will encourage further progress in the development of e-business in Bermuda. We already have a well-developed telecommunications infrastructure which provides an excellent platform for the development of internet-related activities. Through this awards competition we can additionally recognize the creativity and innovation of many of our best businesses as well as students and Bermudian citizens.'

The organisers of the competition, which will take place on an annual basis, will look for excellence in web design, e-commerce solutions and advanced technology when deciding on nominees for the awards ceremony and hope to see the competition enhance Bermuda's image and promote awareness of the Island as an innovative and leading force for e-commerce and internet capability.

Evoke International President, Walton Brown Jr, praised the support of both the Ministry and the corporate sector for the initiative. 'We are encouraged by the level of resources committed to this initiative by both the Ministry and companies on the island. The sponsors are keen to lend their names to this important event and promote the competition objectives,' he said.

Sponsors include: Eventure Centre, an offshore e-business host; Paragon Bermuda, custom and e-business client server; and TeleBermuda International, a leading facilities-based provider of telecoms and offshore e-commerce services.

Web sites aiming to join the competition are asked to submit applications before October 19, and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 25 January, 2002. Further details can be found on the competition's web site at: http://www.web-s-awards.com
