Under a new proposal from the Polish Ministry of Finance, companies and entrepreneurs, whether legal entities or individuals, may end up paying a single rate of corporate tax.
Speaking in the Sejm, the Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Marek Belka, announced that the new rate, if implemented, would probably be equivalent to the current tax on legal entities, which is around 28%.
This will benefit larger organisations which currently fall in the 30-40% tax band, but may hit smaller companies, contractors, and the self-employed hard. Small business groups have suggested that allowing the smallest companies more opportunities to pay fixed sums may help to counteract this, although some are arguing for the retention of the 19% rate for the country's smallest businesses.
