Major international asset manager Barclays Global Investors, has launched a new hedge fund dedicated to small cap stocks.
According to reports, the latest fund issued by the group was closed on the same day as its launch and raised some $90 million in investment capital.
In a company statement, Mark Fitzgerald, director of the alternative investment group at BGI explained: "We believe that small cap stocks offer the potential for enhanced returns over large caps, due to the greater inefficiencies in the smaller end of the market and it is these inefficiencies that we will be looking to consistently exploit”.
The new fund is to be managed from the firm’s London office by the same management team running BGI’s UK and Europe Equity Market Neutral portfolio.
As one of the world’s largest institutional investment managers, Barclays Global Investors has around 2,500 globally-based clients in 45 countries and manages more than $1.5 trillion in assets.
