Barbados is currently playing host to a major international tax conference, which is being attended by 135 delegates from approximately 37 countries to discuss ideas and network to develop effective taxation policies.
The 2007 Inter-American Centre for Tax Administrators (CIAT) General Assembly is being held under the auspices of the Inland Revenue Department at the Hilton Barbados Hotel, from May 21 to 24.
The theme of the 2007 General Assembly is ‘Key Structural Aspects of the Tax Administrations’. Over the four-day meeting, three key aspects of tax administration are being discussed, namely: The Organisational Structure; Models of Relationship of the Central Tax Administrations with other Collection Institutions; and Structural Change in Modern Tax Administrations and Human Resources Management.
The establishment of the Central Revenue Authority of Barbados is also the focus of discussion, during a presentation by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, William Layne.
CIAT is a public international organisation which was established in 1967 to promote the improvement of the tax administrations through the exchange of ideas and experiences; technical assistance and training; compilation and distribution of information; and the promotion of technical research. It comprises 37 countries – 29 from the Americas, five European states as full members and three countries, Czech Republic, Kenya and South Africa, as associate members.
