The Bahamas is to host the 2004 Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Caribbean Conference in May, which according to participants, will give the jurisdiction the opportunity to showcase the merits of its financial services sector.
"I think that as a jurisdiction we don't tout our achievements sufficiently," observed conference chair, Heather Thompson at a press briefing. "This will give us an opportunity not only to show by the calibre of the speakers we have how developed we are, what services we can provide, (and) the analytical ability that we have here; also, it will give as the opportunity to showcase the new legislations which are coming on stream."
The conference will be sponsored by several Bahamian institutions such as the Central Bank, the Ministry of Financial Services and Investment, the Bahamas Financial Services Board and the Association of Banks and Trust Companies, among other industry groups.
STEP Bahamas is part of the worldwide organization which has a global membership of over 10,000. The primary purpose of STEP is to provide education and networking opportunities for its members, and to raise the profile of wealth management, particularly in the field of trusts and estate management.
STEP Bahamas has over 375 members (including student members) that include attorneys, chartered accountants, insurance specialists, tax planners, trust officers, private bankers, and representatives from other wealth management disciplines, making it the fifth largest branch of 75 offices scattered around the globe.
