The Bahamas is to host a major e-commerce seminar in March entitled "E-Commerce in the Bahamian Economy: Business Beyond Borders". The three-day event will take place between March 12-14 2001 and is being hosted by two local companies, the Facilitators and Global Communications Developers.
The seminar has been organised for the business community so that they can develop a sound understanding of the impact that the Internet can have on their businesses. Stuart McKinney of the Facilitators said: 'Bahamians in general and corporate Bahamas, in particular, can benefit from exposure to e-commerce and this seminar aims to encourage local businesses to take advantage of this opportunity'.
Participants at the e-commerce event will include professionals in banking, insurance, trade unions and shipping. There will also be representatives from the travel industry, the government and the media. Presiding over the event will be a number of Internet technology experts.
Amongst the subjects to addressed will be what e-commerce can do for the consumer, the components of an e-commerce solution, and a history of the Internet, its evolution and its impact present and future. There will also be information booths displayed by sponsors and local Internet Service Providers.
