A major business conference, the Bahamas Business Outlook 2001, will take place at the Nassau Marriott Resort on January 15. The conference is set to address the challenges and opportunities for business in the Bahamas in 2001, as well as the changes taking place in the financial services industry.
This will be the 10th year of the conference, organised by The Counsellors Ltd and sponsored by major firms including the Fidelity Group of Companies, Imperial Life Financial, Ernst & Young and the Central Bank of the Bahamas. Featured speakers at the conference will be key persons involved in the Bahamian economy, such as Finance Minister Sir William Allen, who will start the event with a speech on "Global Challenges Facing the Bahamian Economy". His remarks will centre not only on the country's blacklisting, but on issues such as the slowing US economy, which is set to have a profound impact on tourism in the region.
Julian Francis, Governor of the Central Bank of the Bahamas and a frequent speaker at Bahamas Business Outlook, will answer the question "Where Does The Bahamas Go From Here?" He will set this topic against the background of new financial services legislation presently being enacted by the government. Lawyers Brian Moree and Claire Hepburn will explore respectively the OECD harmful tax initiative under the banner "The Long Arm of the OECD: Law Enforcement or Tax Collection" and "How Do We Survive and Do Business?"
Registration for Bahamas Business Outlook 2001 may be made by contacting Eileen Fielder at The Counsellors, telephone 322-7505, fax 325-2482, e-mail boutlook@thecounsellorsltd.com.
