The newly established BVI Finance Centre has appointed Lorna Smith, a prominent public servant in the jurisdiction, as its Executive Director.
The finance centre was launched over the summer, and is designed to promote the Islands' financial services sector to an international audience, and to enhance the degree to which the industry contributes to the BVI economy.
Speaking following her appointment, Mrs Smith expressed the hope that under her leadership: 'The BVI Finance Centre will become the voice and face of the territory's financial services,' adding that: 'Effective promotion of our strengths, particularly the enactment of effective regulation and our ability to remain on the cutting edge, will be key to BVI's future growth in an increasingly challenging and competitive marketplace.'
Separately, the jurisdiction also played host last month to the Second Caribbean Practical Due Diligence Symposium, a two day event which was well attended by professionals working in the region's mutual fund, company registration, trust formation, accounting, and luxury goods sectors.
