UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom announced on Tuesday that it has sent a Statement of Objections to former monopoly telecommunications provider BT regarding the firm's pricing of its residential broadband services.
Ofcom revealed that it proposes to make a decision that BT Group plc has infringed Section 18 of the Competition Act 1998 and Article 82 of the EC Treaty.
The probe was initiated by Ofcom's predecessor, Oftel more than two years ago, following a complaint from internet service provider Freeserve (now Wanadoo) that BT was engaged in predatory pricing activities with regard to its high speed internet service.
In a statement, the regulator explained that:
"BT now has the opportunity to make written and oral representations in response to Ofcom’s proposed decision. These will be taken fully into account before any final decision is made."
