Austria's BZÖ Party Proposes Pact Pledging No New Taxes

Given the on-going dispute dividing Austria’s coalition government, regarding the introduction of new taxes, such as wealth tax, the conservative party Alliance for the Future of Austria (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich or BZÖ) is proposing to freeze the current burden imposed on taxpayers: instead of introducing new taxes, every taxpayer should receive EUR200, the party maintains.

Determined to prevent further taxes being levied in Austria, the BZÖ intends to put forward the idea of concluding a “pact against new taxes” with the ÖVP, or Austrian People’s Party, and with the FPÖ, or Freedom Party of Austria, during the next meeting of the National Assembly.

Anxious to obtain agreement from both parties, the BZÖ is hoping that such a pact would block plans by the Social Democratic party and the Green party to increase the tax burden.

Instead of introducing new taxes, the BZÖ is calling for EUR200 to be included in the June pay packets of all income taxpayers to alleviate the tax burden and to strengthen spending power.
