Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan has defended the country's stimulus strategy, stating that the economy has yet to feel the benefits it will bring.
Mr Swan made the announcement after it was revealed that the country's gross domestic product had dropped for the first time in 8 years by 0.5% at the end of 2008.
However, the Treasurer maintained that despite the pressures of the recession, the full effects of the AUD42bn economic stimulus package would be felt by the economy over the coming months.
Swan also assured that Australians would benefit from the package in the long-term, with the measures designed to filter through the economy over the next two years.
