It has been reported in Australia that Prime Minister, John Howard, has pledged to appoint an Inspector General to investigate complaints against the Australian Taxation Office.

Thousands of people throughout Australia have lost money through mass marketing tax minimisation schemes and the government is under a lot of pressure to respond to an increasing number of complaints about the ATO in general.

Mr Howard also announced that a review of the Trade Practices Act will take place and there are plans to change the tax laws for expatriates.
