Australian meat exporters are urging the government to defer its plan to increase inspection charges later this year.
Under the current proposal, as of July 1 it will be mandatory for meat exporters to pay the full cost of inspections carried out by the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS).
The new regime affect exports of meat, fish, dairy, grains and horticultural products.
The proposal has drawn significant criticism from exporters, who believe that the additional 'tax' will cost around AUD40m (USD27.4m).
