Her Majesty's Attorney General for England and Wales and the Attorneys General of the United Kingdom Overseas Territories, as well as representatives from the US and Canadian Departments of Justice, will attend the 10th Annual Conference of Attorneys General of the United Kingdom Overseas Territories next week.
Held this year in the Cayman Islands, the conference will be held from 27-29 March at the Hyatt Regency. The host is Cayman's Attorney General, the Hon. Mr. David Ballantyne. Delegates also include Mr. John White, Head of the Overseas Territories Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ian Hendry, Deputy Legal Adviser, Overseas Territories Department and Ms Susan Dickson, Regional Legal Adviser Overseas Territories Department based at the British High Commission in Barbados.
The conference is an opportunity for Attorneys General to discuss legal issues affecting the Overseas Territories, of particular interest to Attorneys General. Among the topics are constitutional and human rights issues, financial initiatives and international co-operation, and regional developments in the legal sector.
Delegates will be welcomed by Cayman's Attorney General at the Opening Ceremony on 27 March when His Excellency the Governor will open the conference followed by welcoming remarks by the Leader of Government Business and an address by Lord Williams, as Chairman of the conference.
The Rt. Hon. The Lord Williams of Mostyn, QC was appointed as the Attorney General of England and Wales in 1999. He was the Minister of State at the Home Office until 1998, and has been the Deputy Leader of the House of Lords since 1998.
