Speaking at a news conference last week, Argentinian Prime Minister, Eduardo Duhalde announced plans to rescue the country's floundering economy, and to end the political and social chaos which has become the norm since the beginning of this year.
The Prime Minister announced proposals to clinch spending cuts and tax sharing plans with the provinces, respect all agreements with multilateral lending agencies, and make amendments to Argentina's banking laws as demanded by the International Monetary Fund. He told reporters that he hoped that the country's recent economic past would soon seem like just a 'bad dream' to the people of Argentina.
Although the decision to share a set percentage of federal tax revenue with the powerful provincial authorities each month, and to repeal the economic subversion law, has not been an easy one, Mr Duhalde told the news conference that there had been no other choice.
'There is no alternative plan, we have a plan with difficulties,' he explained.
The Argentinian government has not yet revealed, however, who will take over as Economy Minister following Jorge Remes Lenicov's resignation last Tuesday.
