UK-based intellectual property firm, BTG, in conjunction with US tech firms Teleshuttle and Teleshuttle Technologies on Tuesday filed patent infringement suits in California against Microsoft and Apple Computer over their use of internet-enabled software updating technology owned by Teleshuttle.
BTG, which holds the worldwide licensing rights to the patent, is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction against future use of the patented technology, which is incorporated into both Microsoft and Apple operating systems and into Microsoft Office products, and plays a major role in protecting computer users from viruses and other internet attacks.
The intellectual property firm explained that it had filed the suits in response to the computing giants' "delay in entering into licensing agreements with BTG on commercially reasonable terms".
