The governing Anguilla United Front Party has retained power in the small Caribbean jurisdiction, maintaining its majority in the island's assembly following Monday’s election.
After all the votes had been counted, it emerged that the United Front Party had won a 39% share of the vote, enough to see it keep its four seat majority in the House of Assembly.
The government had pledged during the election campaign to give the go-ahead to infrastructure projects such as the $25 million airport expansion programme.
Among the principal opposition parties, the Anguilla National Strategic Alliance led by opposition leader, Edison Baird held two seats, and the Anguilla United Movement fronted by former Chief Minister Hubert Hughes, held one seat.
Overall, a record 25 candidates stood in the election, which is held every five years. Just fewer than 75% of the 7,560 eligible voters turned out, a slight increase on the numbers who voted in the 2000 poll.
