The Anguillan government has unveiled a new strategy for the marketing and promotion of its financial services sector. In a bid to rank alongside the better-known international offshore financial centres such as the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands, the government of Anguilla has appointed the UK/US public relations firm, Profile Corporate Communications Ltd, to advise on the long-term media, marketing and promotional strategy of the island's financial services sector.

The public relations firm will report to the Director of Financial Services and is also accountable to the joint Anguilla Financial Services Association (AFSA)/Government of Anguilla (GOA) Marketing and Promotional Committee. High-level talks were recently held between senior Anguillian officials and the Profile team in order to draw up a comprehensive strategy.

John Lawrence, Director of Financial Services in Anguilla, said that Profile would be responsible for creating better awareness of Anguilla as a quality and well-regulated jurisdiction in the international marketplace. He commented: 'It is important that Anguilla has a long term marketing strategy in place at such a crucial stage in its development of financial services. This is being achieved while Anguilla is experiencing growth, largely through the ACORN facility, and as international organisations are focusing on regulation through a number of initiatives.'

ACORN (Anguilla's Commercial On-line Registration Network system) is a important string in the jurisdiction's bow. A state of the art companies registry system developed in Anguilla with assistance from Companies House UK and the UK Government, it allows the electronic incorporation and registration in Anguilla of Ordinary Companies, International Business Companies (IBCs); Limited Liability Companies; and Limited Partnerships. The system went live in November 1998 and ACORN companies can be incorporated instantly from anywhere in the world 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Profile have been in Anguilla visting senior government officials including the Governor of Anguilla and Chief Minister Osbourne Flaming, plus key industry players including company managers, trust companies and members of the private sector. The first draft of the marketing strategy is currently under review. Once the programme has been finalised Profile will be the key point of contact for the execution of the strategy.
