Anguilla, which has had its problems recently with the US authorities, is hoping to steal a march on its competitor IOFCs by introducing virtual companies which can be incorporated on-line. The system was paid for by the UK Government and developed by the Registrar of Companies, Alan Jones, who is on secondment from the DTI.
The system is called Acorn, and it can be used only by company formation agents who have to be approved by the Anguillan government before they are given access. Once you're in, though, it is fast and effective. Alan Jones says that incoporations rose last year to 750, and he attributes this to the new system.
