Totalbet looks set to become the fourth electronic betting company to be licensed to operate on the Channel Island of Alderney. Totalbet is a consortium of three UK companies which plans to offer global tax-free Internet gambling from Alderney. The company is presently awaiting clearance by the island's Policy and Finance Committee, and assuming there are no complications will begin operations in June this year.
Public hearings were held last week for Totalbet and other interested parties to put their case. While objections were raised to the issuance of a fourth betting licence, these were not specifically directed against Totalbet, which has received the full backing of the existing electronic betting operators on the island. At the hearings it was decided that before a decision could be made on the licence application the company would have to submit its accounts for its onshore operations to the Policy and Finance Committee for scrutiny.
