The level of Airport Security Tax imposed in the Cayman Islands increased by CI$5 on Tuesday, the government has announced.
The Cayman authorities explained that in light of the increased vigilance necessary since the September 11 attacks, additional security measures have been imposed, with the Civil Aviation Authority footing the bill in great part. However, further heightening of security measures has necessitated an increase from CI$3 to CI$8, according to a government statement.
The Government Information Services (GIS) document went on to explain that: 'The increased tax will pay for the continuing maintenance and upgrading of airport security, including but not limited to such things as: the purchase of advanced equipment, more frequent staff training, hiring additional personnel, and confidential security measures for compliance with more stringent international regulations.'
