Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider, Vonage has launched a lawsuit against rival telecommunications firm, AT&T, arguing that the latter's newly launched "CallVantage" broadband telephony service sounds misleadingly like Vonage's corporate brand, and is therefore likely to confuse consumers.
Speaking to internetnews.com with regard to the suit, which was filed in a New Jersey District Court last week, Vonage spokeswoman Brooke Schulz explained that the action "is about protecting the Vonage name".
She went on to add:
"We've spent three years building the brand, so it's not only the dollars that we've put into it, but time as well."
AT&T was reportedly unperturbed by the legal action, however, announcing simply: "We believe their suit is without merit".
