The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has announced that it will offer tax help to those individuals who have been badly affected by the recent storms and droughts.
Issuing the announcement on February 6, the ATO explained that it understands that, for those affected by difficult circumstances such as droughts and the recent storm activity in Queensland, tax obligations may not be a priority at this time.
Tax Commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo said the Tax Office is aware this is a difficult time for many residents in the storm affected areas.
“We understand that many people have other priorities to focus on at the moment and would like to alleviate some of the strain on those affected,” he remarked, adding:
“If you are having problems meeting your tax obligations because of the storms, or have recently received a letter or notice from the Tax Office, you should call us to make arrangements specific to your individual circumstances."
“Tax agents can also make arrangements on behalf of affected clients by calling us."
