Speaking at this week's meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, the organisation's Business Advisory Council (ABAC) stated that it was "very concerned" to increase intellectual property protections in the region.
According to a report from the Yonhap News service, the violation of IP rights was one of the key issues under discussion at the meeting, held in Busan, South Korea.
"It is robbing, it is the equivalent of high crime," observed Wendy Pye, chair of ABAC's technology working group, continuing:
"We are very concerned about intellectual property. Because piracy actually not only stops encouraging the development of intellectual property...also because it is robbing."
