According to a survey recently conducted
by Luxembourg's Chamber of Commerce and the Centre de Recherche Public,
43 per cent of businesses in the Grand Duchy believe that 'the internet
and e-commerce are not applicable to their enterprise.'
The online news service, europemedia.net, has reported that of the 1004
businesses questioned, 97 per cent use at least one computer in their
business operations but a mere 6 per cent employ more than five IT professionals.
As would be exptected it is the finance, IT and telecommunication sectors
that employ more IT personnel.
79 per cent of the survey group claimed that they have access to the Internet, but only 74 per cent admitted to using e-mail on a regular basis. It was estimated that 80 per cent of websites are used largely for promotion and marketing purposes, and only 21 per cent of those companies actually use the website for selling online. The survey concluded that a grand total of 8 per cent of companies surveyed actually engage in e-commerce activities.
