The UK Inland Revenue
has announced that it has decided to run an open competition for IT and
related services partners to take forward the development and operation
of its Information Technology operations when the current
contracts expire in 2004. This will include support for tax, tax credits,
National Insurance and any future developments.
In a press release
from the Inland Revenue, the department stated that it faced 'significant
strategic challenges' to the
successful delivery of key services to both the public and government.
Commenting on the competition Nick Montagu, the Inland Revenue's Chairman
said: 'The Inland Revenue faces changes on an unparalleled scale and on
all fronts - policy, compliance, customer services and expectations, the
integration of new businesses and the use of new technologies to deliver
our services.'
He added: 'Our challenge,
and that of our partners, is to find ways to transform our business to
meet these demanding and exciting times. Our IT partner, beyond 2004,
will play a major part in changing our business and we are therefore looking
for the right partner with the right skills to deliver our aspirations.
This competition will be
vital to the future success of the Inland Revenue.'
