A memorandum of understanding between Switzerland and the Middle Eastern state of Lebanon was signed last week by Swiss Economy Minister David Syz and Lebanese Economy and Trade Minster Marwan Harmade, as both sides seek to boost bilateral trade.
The ceremony was held in the Lebanese Pavilion of the Basle expo and was attended by members of the business community from both nations.
Harmade commented that Switzerland was one of his country’s leading trading partners and remarked that the MOU would help restore Lebanon’s former status as the ‘Switzerland of the Orient’.
Meanwhile, Mr Syz noted that there was still “much to do” to improve relations between the two countries though he observed there were many opportunities for cooperation that have yet to be explored.
