Switzerland Signs Economic Cooperation Accord With Lebanon

Switzerland and Lebanon signed an economic cooperation agreement on Tuesday which will pave the way for increased trade and exchange in commercial expertise between the two nations, according to their respective representatives.

“Switzerland is among our first partners in foreign commercial relations, as it comes on top of the list of countries that import from Lebanon,” said Lebanese Economy and Trade Minister Marwan Hamade. “Our exports to Switzerland represent 13 percent of Lebanon’s overall exports. This relatively good figure confirms that some valuable exports could push Lebanese exports a step forward in the West,” he added.

David Syz, Swiss Minister of Economic Affairs, who put pen to paper on behalf of Switzerland, commented that the move would be a big step towards Lebanon's goal of joining the WTO, adding: “it also longs for signing a free-trade agreement with Lebanon in the future.”
