Swiss Economic Growth Static In Third Quarter
by Ulrika Lomas, Tax-News.com, Brussels

29 November 2004

According to figures released by Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs on Friday, economic growth failed to accelerate in the third quarter, partly due to weak consumer spending.

The Secretariat went on to reveal that gross domestic product grew 0.4% in the July to September period, which represents no change from the first and second quarters.

Speaking to Bloomberg last week with regard to the growth figures, Deutsche Bank economist, Manuela Preuschl observed that:

"We can't rule out that a weakening we've seen in the euro region will show its impact in the fourth quarter," adding: "That's while a rising franc will eventually show its skid marks on the Swiss economy."
