Survey Shows File Sharing On The Increase Despite Music Industry Actions

A recently released survey conducted by XTN Data has shown that illegal file-sharing activity appears to be increasing in the United States, despite concerted action by the music and film industries to prevent it.

According to XTN, around two-thirds of the people questioned stated that they were not concerned that they would face legal action as a result of their use of peer-to-peer file sharing services.

Questioned with regard to legal download services, 58% stated that they were too expensive, 41% argued that they were difficult to use, and 43% slammed the limited choice of music on offer.

Speaking to Vnunet, XTN founder Greig Harper drew attention to the relatively low success rate of the music industry's legal clampdown, explaining that:

"We estimate there to be 52 million people in the US using file sharing software. In the past two years legal action in the US has seen 3,500 cases resolved."
