According to the results of a survey published this week to coincide with the
Monaco Boat Show, the UK's superyacht sector is showing growth both in terms
of sales, and in the number of people employed.
The survey was conducted by Superyacht UK, a subsidiary of UK marine industry
trade body, the British Marine Federation.
According to reports, more than 95% of the Superyacht UK members polled either
increased or maintained the same number of employees in the last year.
A significant majority (84%) reportedly rated the domestic market workload
as higher or the same compared with a year previous, and over two-thirds suggested
that the workload provided by the export market had increased compared with
the previous year.
84% of the 130 businesses questioned by Superyacht UK also reportedly rated
their business prospects in the near-term as 'good' or 'excellent'.
Commenting on the survey results in the UK media this week, Rob Stevens, Chief
Executive of the British Marine Federation observed that:
“The Superyacht sector is a UK success story, and the results of this
survey are a welcome boost. With thousands of people either directly or indirectly
employed, it demonstrates how high-end manufacturing can play a key role in
the British economy. It is particularly pleasing to see such confidence in export
markets – with British expertise winning more customers in the competitive
European and World markets. I look forward to continued expansion and success
for the UK Superyacht industry in the future.”
