by Amanda Banks, Tax-News.com, London

01 October 2003

Dr Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of the Caribbean jurisdiction of St Kitts and Nevis, was appointed chairman of the Small States Forum during the IMF/World Bank meeting in Dubai last week.

The forum acts as a partnership between the world's small states and international institutions such as the World Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, the IMF, the World Trade Organisation, the European Union and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Speaking at the forum last week, Dr Douglas, who assumes the chairmanship from Mauritius, said one of his main priorities was to improve the allocation of resources to social projects which are being held back by tight fiscal rules imposed by international financial institutions on the smaller nations.
