The Seychelles' latest external trade statistics have indicated a sharp rise in the amount of re-exports, whilst domestic exports registered a decline last year.

According to the External Trade Statistics Report, the value of re-exports rose by 73% to R591 million (US$109 million), of which R479 million were re-exports of petroleum products to ships and aircraft.

Meanwhile, the value of domestic exports fell by 12% to a little over R1 billion last year.

The Statistical Bulletin also highlighted a rise of 23% in the value of imports at R2.74 billion.

The net effect of the latest figures is a larger trade deficit, which has risen sharply over the previous year by 52% to R1.14 billion.
