Seychelles President Rene To Relinquish Leadership
The Seychelles long-serving president, Albert Rene, has announced that he is to hand over the reigns of power later this year after nearly thirty years as the country’s leader.
Mr Rene announced his decision during the state of the nation speech to parliament last month. He has nominated Vice President James Michel to assume the presidency later in the year.
Mr Rene took control of the government in 1977 following a bloodless coup.
