Seco Satisfied With Implementation Of Swiss Anti-Wage Dumping Laws
In a report released last Friday, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic
Affairs (Seco) announced that it is happy that measures introduced to accompany
the signing of the free movement of people agreement with the European Union
are being effectively implemented. The federal laws on minimum pay, working conditions and collective labour agreements
were put in place in order to prevent Swiss firms from 'wage dumping', or taking
advantage of cheaper labour from the EU. Despite recent complaints from trade unions in Switzerland that the local and
federal authorities are not doing enough to protect minimum salaries and to
ensure adequate working conditions, Seco revealed last week that it is "satisfied"
with the government's action on the matter. The Seco report additionally revealed that the number of EU residents seeking
employment in Switzerland since the bilateral agreement was signed had not exceeded
predictions. .
