Rosemary Marr has been elected as the new STEP Worldwide Chairman at the STEP
Council in London, it emerged earlier this week.
Speaking with regard to her appointment, Ms. Marr announced on Monday that:
"I would like to thank STEP members for supporting me in my election as
the new STEP Worldwide Chairman."
She went on to add that:
"Our key challenge will be to build on our reputation as the global educator
of trust and estate professionals. We will also expand our public policy work
so that regulation and legislation sustains a positive environment for our members
and their clients. We will continue to work to demonstrate that the work of
STEP members in responsibly stewarding assets is a benefit to the public."
The new STEP Chairman continued:
"That there will be challenges is certain. Trust and estate practitioners
are faced with an increasingly complex fiscal and regulatory regimes. We must
continue our constructive dialogue with the key players who drive regulation
and legislation at national and international levels to ensure they understand
the business of our members and the benefits that a well educated trust and
estate profession bring to all."
"I would like to pay tribute to my immediate predecessor, Richard Pease,
for his vision and energy in providing a major impetus to the growth of the
Society particularly in civil law jurisdictions," she concluded.
In other changes John Riches and Michael Young were re-elected as Deputy Chairmen
of the Society and Larry Frostiak was re-elected as Treasurer.
Former Chairman Richard Pease was elected as Vice-President and Ian MacDonald,
Kelly Massey-Carlier and Remi Aiyela were elected to the STEP Council, and former
Council members Edmund Fry and Richard Williams were thanked for their years
of hard work.
