STEP Conference To Examine Future For Channel Island Trust Clients
by Carla Johnson, Investors Offshore.com, London

13 February 2008

Following a recent STEP survey which showed that a third of the UK’s non-dom community are preparing to leave or sell UK investments, STEP is holding a conference which will focus on the new tax and investment environment for clients with trusts and companies in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

Rosemary Marr, Chairman of STEP Worldwide observed that:

“There is a great deal of concern and uncertainty over the future of international trusts, companies and investments. Through this event we will help advisors understand how non-doms can continue to plan. We will also cover broader trust changes, overseas divorce and mediation on the Islands."

At the forthcoming conference, John Nugent of West Corporation will discuss the tax environment for non-doms, and John Kelleher of Carey Olsen will cover investment problems.

The finance divisions of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man have come together to support the inaugural STEP Crown Dependencies conference, which will be held on 6 March 2008.

The event will provide the first ever opportunity for trust professionals to hear from all three STEP branches together on legal, regulatory, and tax issues facing trustees and private clients.

Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe is the keynote speaker for the conference, which will take place at the QEII Conference Centre in London.

This is the first time that all three STEP branches and Jersey Finance, Guernsey Finance and Isle of Man Finance have jointly supported an event.

In a joint statement, the Finance centres announced that:

"This conference an important opportunity to showcase the private client profession. It is important for private client advisors who do business in the Crown dependencies and those who want to experience the expertise our professionals have to offer."
