SFA Seeks Increased R&D Tax Credits
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

20 October 2004

Joining the chorus of special interest groups making demands of new Irish Finance Minister, Brian Cowen in the run-up to his debut budget, the Small Firms Association (SFA) has asked for the introduction of improved tax credits for firms involved in research and development (R&D).

In its pre-budget submission, the SFA also urged the government to give a EUR300 million rebate to businesses in the Republic to compensate for the commercial rates that they have paid to local authorities, to put in place measures to boost affordable housing, and to support increased availability of childcare.

In common with many other groups and commentators, the SFA additionally revealed that it is in favour of linking tax credits to inflation and widening the existing tax bands in order to combat 'bracket creep'.
